Chocolate Milk - a great sport drink!

This is from an article I submitted in EzineArticles. Just more information out there that chocolate is good for you.
Women's Health Magazine recently compiled a list of The Best Fitness Foods for Women. One of the foods listed was chocolate milk. Sports nutritionist Susan Kleiner, Ph.D, author of High-Performance Nutrition: The Total Eating Plan to Maximum Your Workout, said that "there's way more to milk than just calcium. In fact, it's a d#@ near perfect food, giving you a lot of valuable energy while keeping your calorie count low. The chocolate kind is loaded with calcium,
vitamins, and minerals just like the plain stuff, but new studies confirm that milk with a touch of cocoa is as powerful as commercial recovery drinks at replenishing and repairing muscles."
Other recent studies have been done to show that chocolate milk is helpful in recovering from strenuous exercise just like Gatorade.
A team of researchers led by Joel M. Stager of Indiana University found that milk contains key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, in quantities that sports drinks can't match.
In their study, they had nine male cyclists ride until their muscles were depleted of energy, then rested four hours and rode again until exhaustion. In between rides, the cyclists drank low-fat chocolate milk, Gatorade, or another sports drink Endurox R4. During the second round of exercise, the cyclists who drank the chocolate milk were able to ride about 50 percent longer than those who drank Endurox, and about the same as those who drank the Gatorade.
The results suggest that "chocolate milk has an optimal ratio of carbohydrates to protein to help refuel tired muscles", Stager said.
These studies all are indicative of the new revelations that are being made about chocolate. In it's basest form chocolate is a healthy food filled with antioxidants. We have all been trained that it is a 'treat' and not good for us, but that is something that has come from the candy companies turning chocolate into a sugar and calorie loaded concoction. Dark chocolate is getting more and more press today as being good for us. And as many say the closer you are to the pure form of cacao (chocolate) the more health benefits you will get.
I just know the sound of chocolate milk after a run sounds much tastier than a Gatorade, and now I can drink it knowing I'm doing my body just as good.

Great Article on Twitter

TWITTER!!!
Everyone is asking What is Twitter? How do you use it? and more importantly, WHY would you want to use it? Read on to find out more informations about this great site.
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

Many people use this just for fun to meet new people. Others use it to get traffic to their blogs or websites, and some use Twitter to gain more knowledge from well known experts in a certain field. Whatever the reason, it is a great site, and you should start tweeting today.

Here are some Twitter tips that you can implement to bring new followers every day.

1. Find people who are interested in your particular niche. Simply do a search in twitter for your niche- this is targeting your market. You can then find and follow people that are interested in the same things you are. This is a great opportunity to learn from them and gain followers who may be interested in what you have to offer.

2. Join Social Networking Sites like Facebook or MySpace - Once a member, you can then find the Twitter groups and write a blurb about yourself. People that are interested will follow you on Twitter.

3. Post a question with a poll - of course your poll will be on your website or blog but let everyone know that you have a poll.

4. Seek advice or training in an area where you need help. People enjoy sharing their experiences and knowledge to help others.

5. Get involved with conversations, rather than just posting random tweets. This is where you will really begin to develop relationships.

6 . Go to www.tweetlater.com and sign up to help you automatically respond to those who follow you. You simply set it up where an instant thank you message is sent to all of your followers.

7. Post your Twitter link in your social networking sites like Myspace, Facebook (has an application that automatically shows all of your Twitter updates), LinkedIn, etc.

8. Search for a big name or successful person in your niche market. Go to their followers list and start following those people. Most of these people can be potential customers that are looking for more information. You can follow a max of 2000 people until 2000 people are following YOU. Then you can get past the 2000 mark.

Let the tweeting begin!

Chocolate Anyone???

Chocolate anyone?
No?? I know, chocolate is bad for our health, we should stay away from it…but should we? Well not according to many studies being done right now. The right kind of chocolate can be quite healthy for us. In fact, raw cacao is actually a superfood! The problem with most chocolate available to us today is two fold: the way it is processed, and the fillers that are added to it. But if you were to take chocolate in its base form, you would be eating a product full of nutrients, including a sizeable amount of antioxidants.

So what are antioxidants? Antioxidants are molecules that prevent the damaging and aging effects of free radicals in your body and raw cacao is full of them in fact, unprocessed Cacao is the highest source of antioxidants in the world. These powerful molecules have been linked to improving cardiovascular health, reducing inflammation, lowering cholesterol, and overall improved health. The studies are everywhere. Simply Google “Dark Chocolate antioxidants” and let the reading begin. So why is the majority of chocolate we see in the stores today considered unhealthy? Here are two reasons.

First, the way chocolate is processed today actually destroys the natural antioxidants found in raw cacao. Heating the chocolate is what kills these powerful antioxidants. Chocolate that is processed in a cold press method retains those antioxidants. One such product is Xocai Healthy Chocolates by MXI Corp. All of their chocolate is processed using a non-alkalized, non-lecithinized and cold-pressed method.

Another way chocolate is made unhealthy is through all the added sugars and fats. You see, raw cacao, in its base form is very bitter. To make it palatable, most companies add a lot of fat and sugar. As we all know, excessive fats and sugars are not a part of a healthy, balanced diet. For example, sugar has a negative impact on our immune system, causes diabetes, and other serious health complaints.

So what is the verdict on chocolate? Not all chocolate is good for you, but not all chocolate is bad for you. It comes down to how it’s processed and what ingredients are added to it. For a healthy alternative, check out Xocai healthy chocolates. You will be pleasantly surprised by the health benefits and the taste.

Xocai Chocolate and Weight Control

Weight Control....it is one of the top health concerns among Americans. Childhood obesity is at an all time high. We spend millions of dollars each year on the latest diet trends, exercise equipment and "Magic Pills", but things aren't changing. We are getting fatter.

But the news isn't all bad. Over the last several years, scientists have discovered that one food, long though of as 'junk food' can actually contribute to healthy and lasting weight loss.
So what food is it? Chocolate - that's right, chocolate. Of course, not just any chocolate will do the trick (in fact, the more common forms of 'candy' chocolate are contributors to the obesity epidemic). But findings from numerous studies show that raw, unalkalized chocolate that is cold processed, high in natural cocoa nutrients and devoid of processed sugars, hydrogenated oils and other artificial ingredients, can provide the body with a powerful weight control tool.

How Bad is the Obesity Epidemic?
Don't think we have an overweight problem? Think again. Over the past 30 years there has been a dramatic increase in overweight and obese individuals in the United States. The graphics below illustrate just how heavy we have become as a people within a very short timeframe.

12 Ways Cocoa Promotes Weight Loss
For many people, chocolate's weight control benefits extend from the suppression of appetite to the enhancement of mood. Research suggests several explanations to how chocolate might aid in weight loss.

1. Optimizes Nutrition:
Much of today's common diet is comprised of empty calories. If the body is not receiving the nutrients it needs, it produces the urge to eat more. Cocoa, on the other hand, provides the appropriate amount of vitamins and minerals the body needs, thus decreasing the urges for added 'fuel'.

2. Balances Blood Sugar:
Cocoa and dark chocolate help stabilize blood sugar levels, reducing hypoglycemic episodes and binge-eating behaviors. They also promote healthy insulin sensitivity and proper glucose metabolism, which minimizes the conversion of glucose into fat.

3. Normalizes Appetite:
one of cocoa's active compounds - anandamide, also called the 'bliss chemical' - helps block the brains appetite center. Anandamide 'tricks' the mind into believing something sweet has been consumed, which satisifies cravings without the added intake.

4. Fights Depression:
Cocoa stimulates the dopamine and norepinephrine pathways in the brain, which lessen depression and are associated with decreased appetite and weight loss.

5. Delivers Phenylethylamine (PEA).
This chemical produces effects similar to those of amphetamine, which makes one feel giddy, euphoric and excited. Researchers also believe that PEA stimulates the production of dopamine in the brain's pleasure center. Such emotions counter the depression typically associated with dieting and restrictive dietary intake.

6. Increases Fiber.
Surprisingly, cocoa is an excellent source of fiber, which helps block fat absorption, creates a feeling of fullness when eating, and is associated with decreased weight.

7. Boosts Endorphins.
Cocoa increases the body's endorphin levels, which naturally decreases the need to eat high-sugar, high-fat foods. The 'high' one gets from the dark chocolate supersedes any enjoyment one might get from eating, so the focus shifts to eating for nutrition rather than pleasure.

8. Increases Serotonin:
This calming neurotransmitter helps promote a balanced mood. Carbohydrates like chocolate help stimulate its production, and the alkaloids found in cocoa also help raise serotonin levels.

9. Relieves Inflammation:
Cocoa's primary compounds help relieve low-grade inflammation. Chronic inflammation is associated with low leptin levels, which increases appetite.

10. Delivers Theobromine.
Similar to caffeine (though not as a strong), theobromine may produce a mild, pleasant stimulatory effect.

11. Substitutes Good for Bad.
Instead of consuming high-calorie chocolates loaded with sugars, bad fats and other harmful ingredients, look for chocolate products that are high in cold-processed cocoa, provide high levels of cocoa's flavanols and other nutrients, and are sweetened with natural sweeteners. This substitution will decrease bad fat, bad sugar and calorie intake and increase consumption of nutrients essential to the body.

12. Increases Energy.
An added benefit of cocoa's accumulative effects seems to be added energy, which can improve one's ability to exercise and lessens the desire to seek out unhealthy foods as an energy source.

Are you getting enough antioxidants?

That is a good question? Because over 80% of adults do not get the daily recomended allowance of these powerful molecules, and that is not healthy. So what exactly are antioxidants, and what do they do?

Antioxidants are powerful healing molecules that prevent the damaging and aging effects of free radicals in your body. The damage caused by free radicals is called oxidation. Some common examples of oxidation are bananas turning brown on your counter top, or rusting metal. When oxidation occurs in your body, it’s called “The painful effects of aging!”

Antioxidant levels in food are measured by its capacity to destroy free radicals. ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) values, as determined by Brunswick Laboratories for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, measure the capacity of a food to absorb and destroy free radicals. This chart shows the ORAC values of several high-antioxidant foods.

Many people don’t realize that unprocessed Cacao is the highest source of antioxidants in the world! Xoçai products are produced with pure unprocessed cacao that is blanched, unfermented, sun-dried, non-roasted, non-alkalized, non-lecithinized, and cold-pressed. Plus, when mixed with the clinically-proven-to-boost-your-health Acai berry, Xoçai™ chocolate products are the perfect delivery system for the antioxidants your body needs, while eliminating nearly ALL the fat and sugar typically found in other chocolate products.
